Join us to learn how your organization can strengthen diversity and inclusion in the Twin Cities legal community
How can we attract and welcome young people from a wider variety of communities into legal careers and build a more vibrant, diverse and inclusive legal community? One strategy is to create internship opportunities for high school and college students that introduce them to the wide range of opportunities available in the legal field and provide critical career exposure and mentoring.
Join us to learn how your organization can strengthen diversity and inclusion in the Twin Cities legal community by hiring interns through the Step Up Youth Employment Program and Achieve College Internships, two well-established internship programs whose participants are 90% BIPOC youth. You’ll hear from Jeremiah Brown from AchieveMpls and Summra Shariff from Twin Cities Diversity in Practice about the long-term impact of internship experiences and how you can hire a high school or college intern at your organization.

Step Up prepares Minneapolis youth for tomorrow’s careers by providing training and paid career experiences for nearly 1,400 Minneapolis students (ages 14-21) each year. With a collective of partners spanning 15 industries, Step Up is a backbone of support that unites businesses, schools, nonprofits and the city together in a common goal: to build and strengthen our future economy and the talented youth who will power it. Step Up is a partnership of the City of Minneapolis, AchieveMpls, CareerForce Minneapolis and Project for Pride in Living.
Achieve College Internships provides career-building opportunities for college juniors – including former Step Up participants and African American male scholars – who are underrepresented in our companies and local college internship programs. In collaboration with the Minnesota Private College Fund, the program connects students with high-quality paid summer internships, mentors and professional networks. It also helps employers strengthen their recruitment and retention of talented, diverse students who want to launch their careers in the Twin Cities.
