Step Up Employer Engagement Assistant and Job Coach
Position Overview
The Step Up employer engagement assistant and job coach offers vital support to Step Up staff and employers, focusing on maximizing summer youth internship opportunities and offering job coaching and other support for interns and supervisors. This is a 5–6-month temporary position (March-August) that ranges 20-40 hours a week and requires a flexible schedule, including evening hours. This position reports to the Step Up employer engagement manager. Priority is given to applications received by Monday, February 10.
From March-early June, this team member will serve primarily in the assistant role, working alongside Step Up staff to process employer documents, match interns with internship positions, communicate with interns and employers regarding the internship process and ensure successful inputting of data into internal database. They will also work closely with the Step Up employer engagement manager to coordinate a series of supervisor orientation sessions, support internship matching and engage in other larger scale Step Up events, including Step Up Mock Interviews and youth intake conversations. They will also support employer training, internship placements and Step Up launch days. Please note that multiple weekday evening hours will be required, as well as flexibility to communicate effectively with young people who are primarily in school until the end of May.
From June to August, they will assume the role of a Step Up job coach to support Step Up employer partners and interns throughout the summer and help ensure meaningful internship experiences. They will conduct visits to internship worksites, manage ongoing communication via email and phone, provide resources for positive youth development and mentorship, and offer guidance on Step Up procedures and policies. They must be available to work a schedule that allows them to communicate effectively with young people who are primarily interning with our employer partners until August.

The Young People We Serve
Step Up supports historically underrepresented Minneapolis youth who are ready to navigate the professional world. Step Up interns are the leaders of tomorrow, the talent that will power our region and reflect the global fluency of our communities. Nearly 86 percent of Step Up interns are youth of color and more than 50 percent come from immigrant families. Our recent interns were born in over 15 countries and speak more than eight unique languages.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide critical assistance to Step Up employer engagement team and partner companies:

Serve in role of employer engagement assistant from March – June. This may include event support, volunteer coordination, CRM documentation (data entry) & reviewing internship job descriptions submitted by partner companies.

Work with Step Up employers to collect their participant information and documentation.

Prepare intern placement information utilizing CRM database to share with employer partners and intern participants.

Work with Step Up program team to match young people 1-to-1 with internships based on strength of fit between employers and intern skills and interests.

Assist with internship placement activities and events.

Communicate with employers to ensure that intern candidates advance to become new hires.

Convey internship match with intern participants to confirm placement.

Support employers in successfully hiring and onboarding interns.

Help coordinate supervisor orientation sessions, including securing event space in several Minneapolis locations and managing supervisor registration and attendance.
Serve as a youth job coach during the summer internship season:

Serve in role of Step Up job coach from June – August.

Coach youth in work-readiness skills and support supervisors who may be new to working with young people.

Provide guidance and support to supervisors for positive youth development and mentoring practices.

Build and maintain positive rapport and relationships with Step Up employers and interns.

Provide high-quality customer service to interns and employer partners, including visiting worksites in-person and virtually for site visits.

Troubleshoot issues with interns and supervisors as necessary.

Maintain accurate and detailed site visit notes, documenting as necessary in Step Up database.

Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
Required:
-
1-2 years professional experience working with populations similar to the young people we serve

Strong communication and customer service skills.
-
Confidence to mingle and ability to engage with young people in informal and formal settings
-
An open, positive attitude and commitment to youth, anti-racism and equity in accessing postsecondary career and education opportunities.

Excellent organizational skills with great attention to detail.
-
Ability to independently problem-solve, prioritize and balance multiple projects and tasks.
-
Must have access to reliable transportation to commute for site visits.
Preferred :
-
Associate’s degree or higher.
-
Experience with sales or youth training/development.
-
Significant Microsoft Office experience.
-
Experience with relational databases, ideally Sales Force.
Wage
$21.00 per hour
