Are you interested in helping young people learn about money management?

Join us as a volunteer for this hands-on, engaging financial training event for Step Up interns, which will introduce them to managing personal finances via a real-world simulation.

Co-hosted by Blaze Credit Union and Step Up, this hands-on “Bite of Reality” simulation was designed for young people and provides a taste of real-world financial realities.

Step Up interns will be assigned a fictional occupation, salary, credit score, spouse and a child, student loan debt, credit card debt, and medical insurance payments. They will then travel to various table-top stations staffed by volunteers to experience what it’s like to manage money on a budget in the real world.

As a volunteer, you will help them “purchase” housing, transportation, food, clothing, cars and other items – and also coach youth who are trying to figure out how to balance wants and needs on a budget. The game also includes a “credit union” to help with their financial needs, and a “Fickle Finger of Fate” will provide unexpected “expenses” or “windfalls”—just like in real life.

This is a fun and engaging way to support our Step Up youth participants in learning about the realities of budgeting and gaining skills an confidence in managing their finances.
