Step Up Intake Interviewers
Position Overview
We’re seeking several intake interviewers to meet virtually one-on-one with Minneapolis youth as part of their Step Up internship eligibility process. Interviewers gather information on the young person’s availability, skills and interests, which will then be used for the Step Up job placement process to help match interns and employers. Interviewers must exemplify professionalism, approachability and cultural sensitivity. They must use their own device (laptop or tablet), have a reliable internet connection and dedicated quiet space during interviews. This is a temporary, short-term position.
Interviewers must be available for a minimum of three shifts, but availability for all is preferred:
- Monday, March 24, 4 – 8 p.m.
- Tuesday, March 25, 4 – 8 p.m.
- Wednesday, March 26, 4 – 8 p.m.
- Thursday, March 27, 4 – 8 p.m.
- Monday, March 31, 4 – 8 p.m.
- Tuesday, April 1, 4 – 8 p.m.
- Wednesday, April 2, 4 – 8 p.m.
- Thursday, April 3, 4 – 8 p.m. (tentative)
About Step Up
The Step Up Youth Employment Program prepares today’s youth for tomorrow’s careers by recruiting, training and placing more than 1,300 Minneapolis young people (ages 14-21) in paid internships each year with over 200 regional employers, from Fortune 500 companies and small businesses to public agencies and nonprofits. As one of the nation’s leading youth employment programs, Step Up leverages a collective of more than 200 partners spanning 15 industries and multiple sectors. Step Up has provided over 34,000 internships since 2003, yielding a competitive talent pipeline, a stronger economy and millions of dollars in wages for Step Up interns. Step Up is a partnership of the City of Minneapolis, Achieve Twin Cities, the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development and Project for Pride in Living.
The Young People We Serve
Step Up supports historically underrepresented Minneapolis youth who are ready to navigate the professional world. Step Up interns are the leaders of tomorrow, the talent that will power our region and reflect the global fluency of our communities. Nearly 86 percent of Step Up interns are youth of color and more than 50 percent come from immigrant families. Our recent interns were born in over 15 countries and speak more than eight unique languages.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Be present virtually for a minimum of three days (March 24, 25, 26, 27, 31; April 1, 2, 3) from 4 – 8 p.m.
- Enthusiastically engage Step Up interns in brief one-on-one virtual interviews.
- Assess and document skills and interests of each trainee.
- Create an environment in which young people are comfortable to share information.
- Attend virtual orientation and training for intake interviewers at an arranged time (TBD)
Qualifications and Experience
Required:
- 1-2 years professional experience
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to model professionalism to young trainees
- Desire to work with and motivate Minneapolis youth
- A flexible, positive, curious and patient attitude
- A strong commitment to equity and youth development
Preferred:
- Excellent teaching or training skills
Wage
$20.00 per hour
